Totally Mental

Good morning! I must have left all my sense on my pillow this morning, lol. The morning starts out with the pleasant surprise of a Starbucks offer from The Boyfriend. One delicious cheese danish later and the handyman knocks on our door. He's over to fix the fan in the office that just stopped working. Now, let me ask you: How many grad school educated individuals does it take to turn on a fan? Two, plus one handyman to turn the dimmer that the fan is wired to. We were so used to just pushing the dimmer knob in to get the fan and light to turn on, that we didn't even consider that we were slowly turning the thing off. The handyman had a good chuckle and then left. We felt like total retards. Then we noticed that we still had our cricket captured via Tupperware in the middle of the living room floor. The handyman must think we're completely mental. Whilst discussing our mental absence with The Boyfriend, I proceeded to mindlessly swirl what was left of my tea in my coffee mug. I swirled it right all over my t-shirt and promptly had to change my clothes. I don't think I've mucked anything else up since then, but the morning isn't over yet!

Shark Week on DVD

Shawna came over tonight to hang out and brought over the Discovery Channel's DVD of Shark Week. Holy crap, I might never get in the ocean again. The first bit was saw was on the history of the sinking of the Indianapolis, a WWII navy ship. It was in the Philippine Sea when two Japanese submarine torpedoes hit it in the middle of the night. It only took 12 minutes for the ship to completely submerge, taking down 300 men with it. The other 900 that made it off the ship preceded to then fight off a list of the following: - being sucked under with the boat from the pressure of the massive ship going down - burns from the fires on the ship as well as critical injuries during the attack - drowning from lack of life vests - dehydration - sunburn (prevented by covering themselves with oil that leaked from the ship) - corneal burns from the sunlight - no food - oh yeah, SHARKS picking off the dead at first then the living - although the men knew better, a number of them drank the salt water which caused them to frawth at the mouth, suffer from diarrhea, their faces and throats to swell and cause suffocation, and death in about 2-3 hours (5 at most) - then dudes started going crazy around day 4 after drinking the salt water. It took 5 nights and 4 days of floating and fighting off sharks before they were rescued. Only 317 of those men made it out of the ocean and back to land.

The second part we saw talked about the top 5 eaten alive stories. We even got to see some actual footage. One chic just completely lost her lower leg and recalled a popping sound when it happened. Her shark was a 16 ft great white caught on camera and flipping gigantic! Another guy was snorkeling for a type of rare sea food (I can't remember what they called it) and the shark bit him so that his whole upper body was in the shark. It was the ole eyeball poke that saved him. Another dude snorkeling for the same reason, got bit once and was able to make it back to the boat. While trying to climb into the ship, he dropped his cutter and instinctively reached down for it. The shark then took the opportunity to eat his arm. The best one, was with this "scientist" (I use quotation marks b/c I don't like it when absolute morons call themselves scientists) who even had the Discovery Channel film crew with him filming the attach. He's in the water with some television host to prove that like a dozen sharks aren't going to bother you so long as you don't bother them. The beauty of it: one nasty shark comes sniffing around his leg and then eats his calf. They have footage of the guy coming out of the water with the help of people and his leg is just shredded with flesh hanging off of it. Hey, be glad I didn't post any of those pictures!

I'm probably going to have a ton of nightmares tonight, but it was worth it to learn so much. I'm on an information high and have to get it all down before I can possibly go to sleep. Next week: more Shark Week and Plant Earth. This is what we science geeks do on a Thursday night ;)

Choosing A Costume

I know its early, but I've been trying to find Halloween costume ideas. I thought I'd go a little skanked out this year in hopes of getting a reaction out of my friends. So far, a buddy of mine helped pic these two and I really like them. I was hoping that you all out their in the world of The Internet could give me advice on which you liked best. Or if anyone has any suggestions for costume ideas that wouldn't be very expensive, that would also be appreciated. :)

I Want These Guys For President

Yesterday in NYC, two window installers needed to be rescued from a building 70 stories up. While waiting for the fire dept to come to their aid, one of the dudes called his Mom to wish her happy birthday. According to the msnbc article, the men were described as behaving very calmly. Dudes were 70 stories up, dangling in the wind and so chill they just waited calmly while smoking cigarettes. Once they were rescued, they went back and fixed the window that was broken in order to rescue them. That is the kind of person you want in the White House. They remain chill when there's a crisis, smoke a pack, danger is averted, then back to business as usual. Awesome.

Cable Is The Devil

I think I have a problem- I'm addicted to cable television. Wednesday nights are my beloved episodes of Project Runway. Last night was a great episode and Joe got booted off. I swear Suede is next, then either Kenley or Jerell. Sunday nights are football and in between commercials House M.D. on USA network (they run weekend marathons). The new season of House starts next week I think. Monday nights on Spike TV they've got marathons of CSI: Las Vegas. I justify my marathon watching by telling The Boyfriend that I'm watching science when he suggests that maybe I should turn the TV off. On Tuesday nights is the new show Fringe on Fox. In between all those shows are episodes of Nanny 911, Wife Swap, and anything on HGTV. We've decided to quit watching Top Design b/c the people and challenges aren't that interesting but most importantly the judges are all icy and bitchy. I'm not down for all that negativity. I might however, start picking up the Rachel Zoe Project on Tuesday nights b/c I dig the fashion. Oh God, I need help! Thank sweet baby Jesus I have plans for the next three nights so that I can get away from The Cable. I have a serious addiction that I can't control. This is why I never had cable during college- I never would have gotten any work done. I once closed out Best Buy due to TV distraction. I was so invested in what was on the big screen TV's that I didn't realize lights being turned off and employees walking around with cash registers signaled closing time. I'm weak to The Cable's powers! It is my cryptonite!

McCain On The View

I really enjoyed this article:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26677599/
I think it nicely cleared up some false statements made by the McCain campaign and I was happy to see that those feisty ladies weren't afraid to boldly tell McCain they thought he was wrong about certain issues. I'm not a big fan of The View and Mrs. Hasselback makes me want to put a hit out on her for being so damned ignorant. But you can't blame a network for needing ratings caused by daily drama, so I understand why they keep her. It doesn't mean I have to watch or take much interest in the show though.

I sincerely hope the spotlight fades on Gov. Palin b/c the lady's politics scare me. Her experience is beyond limited, so much so that she couldn't answer a question concerning the "Bush doctrine" b/c she obviously didn't know what it was. And I have to say I'm not crazy about having a VP with control over foreign policy who's only been to Canada, Mexico and once to Germany and Kuwait. I'm only 26 and I've *lived in* Peru, South Korea, Germany and all over the United States. That makes me more experienced than her in foreign policy for Christ sakes.

I also get very nervous at McCain's mention of trying to over turn Roe vs Wade by appointing Supreme Court justices to "strictly interpret the constitution." What's to keep the Republican party from then pressing the Supreme Court to "strictly interpret" who can marry whom? McCain claims to believe in a separation of church and state, but I'm not convinced he'll leave gay marriage up to individual states.

Honestly, I think the madness just needs to stop. Obama/Biden '08

Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008) - Red Band Trailer [HD QUALITY] Seth Rogen

I can't wait until this movie comes out! I almost cried laughing while watching this trailer.

Sorry for not posting anything but comedy trailers for a while. Things with work have picked up considerably and anything that's worth writing about just gets me angry (for example: the RNC, the election, the new Republican VP nominee, and some drama concerning friends). Honestly, I almost chucked the remote control at our beautiful television last night during Joe Lieberman's speech.

I'll try to be better about posting something worth reading :) I hope everyone is having a good "hump" day! (Get it! I'm hilarious!)
